The menstrual cycle is a deep and nuanced process. However, it doesn’t have to be such a mystery to you or your loved ones. In my last post I wrote about starting to track your cycle & pay attention to your body’s rhythm. In this follow up post I’m going to deepen into the themes of each phase of the cycle and give you a few tips about my most favorite tools to use in relationship to this process.
This is the time to turn inward, like during the winter. Many teachings say that the bleeding time is really supposed to be about meditation & deep embodied experience. Others say it’s about being taken care of. I like both, myself 🙂 A few of the powers of this time are a deep sense of your inner world, the capacity for altered states, and much more. The challenge of this time is often symptoms or pain (I believe a huge part of this is because society does not support people to take time for their natural rhythm, nor does it support people to have balanced bodies, pain isn’t “how it’s supposed to be” and learning this piece was one of the biggest influences on me). The other challenge can be simply to make time for yourself. One of my most favorite things to do is to give myself a menstrual retreat where I do everything in my power to make sure I have nothing on my calendar during my heavier days of bleeding. The more we take care, the more the bleeding time can begin to feel like an important journey of release versus a burden.
** If you go deeply into this process, there are actually phases of the bleeding time that each have their own power and challenge.
If you think of one end an egg as the bleed time and the other end of an egg as ovulation, there is a transition time between bleeding & ovulation….this is the pre-ovulatory phase. The powers of this phase are curiosity and desire among others. This is a great time to begin not come out of the shell of menstruation but not going from 0-100 all at once. One of the challenges here is to allow ourselves to be just coming out of our internal world and to reserve some of ourselves, for ourselves.
This is the peak. If bleeding time is the most internal point, this is the most external polar end. The power of this time is potent! This is a time when we may be particularly gifted at loving others among a slew of other potent powers (many that have a lot of stereotypes about them). I find that a lot of generalizations & stereotypes come in about all of these phases when really, it’s unique process for each individual. The challenges here, in addition to owning your sexual power, can be bountiful for some. Some people really struggle with the level of energy in this phase, sometimes it can feel like anxiety. There can also be tendencies to be less in touch with oneself.
We all know this one. I sometimes refer to this phase as the buildup. This is where we begin to build toward the other polarity. If I forget to take care or pay attention, I often feel like I’m going to explode during this phase. This phase is actually a powerful and potent time, if we can learn to ride the wave. One of the powers of this time is saying no. One of the biggest challenge is to face ourselves and begin to meet our own shadows. There is much depth and gold here if we’re willing to go there.
Curious about the depth of the gifts & challenges? This is a vast world and can’t all fit into a blog post. I teach this practice and model in depth in my programs. I’m always curious to hear what you experience during these phases if you want to write to me. With love, Alicia
The menstrual cycle & fertility is a universe in itself (like most of my blog topics!) In this post I’m going to introduce you to the basic building blocks of beginning to track your cycle, why this is a valuable piece to explore, and a few tools to get you started.
In the wide world, even though this is beginning to change, I still see the menstrual cycle & fertility signs being shamed / avoided / and at best, mysterious. This is a problem because if you live in a body that has a menstrual cycle, that cycle has a big impact on life, energy levels, relationships, sex, and more. The cycle and fertility is actually not mysterious if you learn what you need to know about it all. Learning to have a relationship to my own menstrual cycle & beginning to track the changes happening in my system was one of the first steps I took to empower myself and repair the relationship to my body. After years of immensely painful periods, a few pelvic health scares, overall disconnection, and a slew of other challenges, I can’t recommend this enough.
Follow these steps to initiate and connect with your own cycle & rhythm:
– learn about the phases of the menstrual cycle. The phases of the cycle all have gifts and challenges. When we learn to attune to them, it’s one of the most efficient & energy-saving ways to live. In my experience, it’s also less painful. Even if you’re on birth control, the body still has phases and cycles. Stay tuned for another blog post coming soon diving deeper into the phases of menstrual cycle soon!
– begin to chart your own cycle. I like to make a huge circle and divide it up so that there is one pie slice for each day in the cycle. In each space I do a simple journal entry for each day: mood / emotions, energy level, sleep, sex drive, food cravings, social tendencies, and anything else that stands out to you as important. You can also use any number of different apps that will track this for you on your phone.
– learn about the fluids in your body (mainly cervical fluid, the fluid that is released from the cervix throughout the monthly cycle is an important indicator of the fertile window). There’s a wealth of information out there about this fluid but the key words are: dry / crackling, sticky, egg-white, slippery. Once you start to notice this range of your own fluids, it becomes easier to notice the changes that happen like clockwork.
– notice changes in your body based on the movement of your system throughout the month. If you pay close attention you may start to notice shifts in the pieces that you’re tracking with your app / chart.
– look into breast massage as a way to help with hormonal regulation. A lot of hormonal regulation is dependent on the breasts and most people forget about this important place in the body (I’ll also come out with a more detailed post on this down the road, stay tuned).
Tracking fluids, changes, and living in rhythm with this cycle has been one of the biggest life-changers for me in terms of the day to day. I feel more permission to be where I am instead of trapped in the “be the same” / wear the same size / have the same energy levels / eat the same that I feel being pushed by society. Basically, I don’t feel pressured anymore to be in a static holding pattern throughout the month. The ebb and flow of the cycle is a beautiful thing if we learn how to attune to it and meet the needs of our bodies. If we blow past the needs of our cycle, usually our bodies will let us know with some kind of physical symptom, emotional reaction, conflict in relationship, etc. So much about learning how to attune & regulate the menstrual cycle is about self-care, bodily needs, boundaries, rest, and optimal usage of our energy at the times when it matters the most.
Making sense to you? Hitting home? Write to me, I love hearing from you and always love working with you on learning how to deepen your relationship to this rhythm in order to best serve your whole life! With love, Alicia
The cervix is the opening of the uterus. This is the place where blood is released, where a baby comes through from one world to the other during a vaginal birth, where cervical fluid is released as a helpful indicator of the fertile window, and where one of the most potent & epic orgasmic potential lives. In this post we’ll learn a few things about this wondrous place and help you discover the power of your own cervix and why it’s important.
In the wider culture, I see the cervix mostly being ignored and forgotten about. I know I never got education or acknowledgement for this part of the body that now to me feels so sacred and like an integral part of my sense of myself. The problem with ignoring and forgetting this place is deep. It can lead to painful feelings around consent & penetration, pre-cancer cells on the cervix (ever heard of a LEEP procedure?), difficulty getting pregnant and opening to give birth, numbness & pain during sex, severe health concerns like cervix / uterine prolapse (where the organ falls down and possibly out of the vaginal opening), and more.
* As always, I invite you to hold as much tenderness and compassion for yourself in this exploration.
Follow these steps to initiate and connect with your cervix:
1. Close your eyes, place your hands on your lower belly, and envision your uterus sitting down into the center of your pelvis.
2. Imagine the bottom of your uterus, the small oval / donut-shaped, smooth, pink tissue of the cervix (this is where the uterus opens).
3. Notice what you feel, think, and any memory associated here. Whether it’s sex that didn’t feel good and pain lives there, a beautiful memory of a powerful and positive experience, or a feeling of tenderness about a medical procedure you’ve had, give your body permission to let you know what’s happening.
** If you’re really curious about what the cervix is like visually, check out The Beautiful Cervix Project and peruse their photo galleries. Some people love to ask to see their own cervix during their gynecological visits.
* If you want to touch your cervix with your finger, it helps to do this closer to menstrual time as the cervix will descend around bleeding time and pull upward / inward during ovulation time. If you find your cervix with your own touch and you can’t really feel it from the inside in terms of what this place “feels like”, that’s common. You’ll know when you’ve reached the cervix because it’s very smooth, doesn’t feel ribbed like muscle, and is more firm, kind of like a bump feeling.
Part of pelvic bowl healing work, if you’re interested, is to work with the cervix. Why would we do this? Because the cervix holds much power and wisdom. For example, one perk is that during a cervix / uterine orgasm, a chemical is released in the body that gives one a feeling of euphoria, connection, and peace. A lot of the time, the cervix is numb / tense and needs a lot of care before this can happen. Releasing these old imprints is definitely one of the most empowering and beautiful experiences of my life. The liberation is truly wild, ecstatic, and transcendent.

With everything that is happening in this world around sexual assault and violation, I felt I had to write about this. I want to write about this from the anatomy, nervous system, and healing perspective. Pelvic bowl healing has never felt so important and profound to me as it does right now. I’m going to address pelvic trauma, how to begin to feel into your own body about this, and assure you that healing IS possible! These bodies are so brilliant.
Pelvic trauma includes assault but goes so much wider than that. Pelvic trauma can be painful sexual experiences, falling on the tailbone, car accidents, traumatic birth, early life trauma, abortion, medical procedures, STI’s, and more.
** To begin, you may want to make a list of all the experiences your pelvic bowl has had in your lifetime.
The myth is that pelvic trauma may be something like “it’s just how it is” and you have to learn how to deal with it. On some level, there may be something that is a process for you. On another level, I know from my own experience and so many I’ve worked with that the pelvic bowl is able to release the imprint and pain of trauma.
People that have gone through sexual violation (either extreme and known or something more subtle that they may not even understand is violating) have trouble with cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, fertility, circulation, digestion, bladder issues, memory, in addition to the standard assumptions about painful intercourse and difficulty with pleasure.
*Side note: it also changes the voice because of how the body is wired, there are so many subtleties like this.
More often than not, for most of the people I work with on my table, some kind of assault, rape, harassment, abuse comes through. It pains me that this number is so high but it brings me so much joy to offer the service that can release it. I know well the imprint of violation on others. I can FEEL it in my hands. I see the impact of violation on the tissue that is visible and I can feel it in the tissue that is internal. This shows up on the labia. The cervix. The digestive organs. The uterus. The muscles holding the vaginal canal. The nerves running through these tissues. In the ligaments and tendons that connect the leg bones into the pelvic girdle. I can see and feel the way the body forms patterns around it all.
* Notice what you feel in your body right now. What are your emotions? What are your physical sensations? Put your hands on your own body to comfort yourself if this is challenging to read. Take a break and come back to it and know that sometimes this works in small doses.
I can feel it as this all releases. I feel it pass through. I know what rage and grief feels like. I want to cry for them and sometimes I do. I want to rejoice in celebration of their bodily freedom and I do. I feel the collaborative effort it takes between us to release it all.
Do you know what I’ve learned? The body is so kind, so resilient, so loving if given permission and care. Bodies that have been shut down for decades take their first breath of true expansion. This impacts the above pieces and leads to overall well-being, greater health, more clear thinking, less emotional reactivity, more creativity and pleasure, and so much more.
Pure rage is powerful but do you know what is even MORE powerful? The expansion. The liberation and freedom. It is so beautiful to feel and to witness.
In today’s world it is a revolutionary act to liberate and awaken to the true current of pleasure and love that lives inside. To walk through the world in THAT without being afraid of what it could result in.
This, not only this, but this is why I’ve made my own form of healing that is so sacred and precious to me. Ready to take your healing into your own hands? Contact me, leave your comments here, email me, I love hearing from you.

The female pelvic universe. This is your power center. In this post, we’ll explore the basics. Even if you’re so familiar with this place, this is always a good reminder. The abc’s is where it’s at for us all. I do this kind of practice every day as a self-care pelvic health practice. You’re going to get the bony landmarks, organ placement, and a way to be in relationship with to these spaces in just 3 minutes.
In my world, a relationship with this body, especially this area, is essential for the health of our entire system. Even if you have had a procedure and some of your organs have been removed, this is still an energetic powerhouse center of your body. My encouragement is to approach this exercise with as much curiosity and acceptance as you can muster!
Follow these steps below to initiate, reconnect with, and foster a loving connection to your own power:
1. Place your hands on your lower belly. Wayyyy low.
2. Find your pubic bone, this is the bone at the very bottom of the lower belly, in the center of your pelvis, that sticks out a bit. Give yourself the kind of touch that feels right here whether it’s light and gentle or firmer and grounded.
3. Move your hands up a few inches and let them rest on the soft tissue of your lower belly. This is the ideal placement of your uterus. Take 3-5 full breaths. Notice what you feel. Check in: how is this place feeling? What are your sensations here? Numb, frozen, alive, tingly, warm, open, tense? What are your emotions and feelings when you go to this place?
4. Bring your fingers a bit more to the outer edge of the lower belly, and up a few inches. This is the ideal position of your ovaries. Take a few breaths. Gently press inward a bit on one side and then the other, notice the quality of the sensation, the feeling. Check in: how is this place doing and feeling?
5. Run your hands along the crest / high ridge of the side of the hips along to the sacrum (very lower back, the origin of the spine). Hold your hand here gentle to sense for a pulse. All of these landmarks make up your pelvic bowl! Let your hands come back to your lower belly and take 3 breaths into your pelvic bowl space that reaches down far under the points of contact under your seat. We’ll cover the pelvic floor in another post, stay tuned for more.
Let me know how this works for you! Do you like what you’ve read? Do you want more? Leave your comments here or write to me, I love hearing from you!
Hi, I’m Alicia. Below is a window into my story, why I am here, how I came to this point in my life and doing the work that I do. I am so honored to share this with you, thank you for being here, I know the courage and bravery it takes to open this door…
For most of my life, until some years ago, I suffered from crippling anxiety, emotional pain, and self-abuse. This showed up in all different kinds of forms from an eating / exercise disorder, hating my body, debilitating menstrual symptoms, addictions of various kinds, toxic relationships, disrespect of myself, health scares, sexual dysfunction, a constant feeling of internal panic, and much more. I was so caught up in perfectionism but I had zero health in my relationship to myself. The battle between hiding my internal world and the image I was trying to maintain on the outside was painful and isolating.
The turning point out of this internal chaos was when I finally said “NO MORE”. In order to get over my personal pain and release the collective pain I was holding, I had to first go deeper inside of myself than I had ever been before. I had to take my health and power into my OWN hands. I stopped waiting for someone to do it for me. I stopped waiting for someone to give me permission, tell me the answers, believe in me, and make me feel better. I finally saw that it wasn’t anyone else’s job and I took responsibility for myself. That day, everything changed. And it keeps changing in the most beautiful, satisfying, and pleasurable ways.
The in-road for me was long and winding. I entered into years of embodiment practices, movement meditation, study of myth and archetypes, uterine and abdominal massage, energy work, physiological and cellular release of medical procedures, and eventually pelvic bowl de-armoring. Addressing my patterns and challenges on the tissue / cellular level was an amazing deep dive. It was the highest-level and most intense process I have ever done, like getting my Phd in ME. I’ve been in the self-development world for over 10 years and I feel strongly that this is the single most potent modality I have ever experienced.
I’ve fused my journey into one unique, high-end, five-star experience because this is what I BELIEVE in! This is the best service I can offer and I know this is my purpose. From all of my healing experiences, trainings, education, processes, and teachers I have studied with, I have created my own medicinal approach that blends the major tenets of holistic healing practices and systems into my method.
This is my greatest love and I am so happy to be offering this at this time and place in this world today. I feel completely aligned with myself, in my power and pleasure. My truth and my voice are turned on and I can tell you, it is such a satisfying and liberating experience.
After my past and all that I had to unpack in my heart, mind and body, I have cried tears of gratitude in recognition that I now stand in my vibrancy and womanhood in a way that I honestly could have never imagined until I began living it.
Releasing the patterns of sexualized fear, body image shame, self-hatred, and coming into my root has changed the entire vibration and frequency of my body. I had to change the way I talked to myself about my body, what I ate, what I deserved, and more. I had to change my ways of making agreements with myself and others. I had to own my power, use my voice, and let go of anything that did not align with what I envisioned for myself. I had to quit the cycle of self-destruction and begin to build what I knew was always ready for me. The relationships I attract, the work I do, my bank account, my sexual and love life, my family experience…all of it has done a complete shift since I entered pelvic bowl healing.
I’ve ascended and risen out of the sh*t I used to swim in, but I still have my feet on the ground and feel a strong sense of myself and my body. I feel powerful and womanly at the same time. I am fully aligned with my sexual, orgasmic self and I know how to share that when it’s right. I know that this comes from the depths I have navigated using the healing process I now share with my clients. I have gone deeper into my body, love, death, surrender, lineage, and pelvic universe in ways that are purely cosmic and universal. I have met with the underworld and the stars through deeply mystical experiences while maintaining my love for the daily sweet realities and sacred mundane of life. This is just one sliver of the teaching of the root. This root tissue is the foundation of your body. Is it time for you to learn yourself here?
What I learned was so profound: once I met my own pelvic universe, what I saw, felt, found, and heard mesmerized me. There was intensity at times, I had to release tears and rage, but it was different than the pain I was so familiar with. I learned in the most embodied way that these beautiful bodies, our vessels for life, are so resilient and loving. The part of myself that most needed liberation, that I had ignored and resisted for so long, was in fact the brightest and most vibrant part of me.
My biggest a-ha moment was, when I finally realized that the place I had been avoiding and shutting down, held my MOST important wisdom. I learned that there is a well of vitality in the pelvic bowl underneath the filmy layers of conditioning, lineage, trauma, hurt, shame, and abuse of power.
This is not only me talking here, this is the work and it is truly amazing. I am the translator, the oracle, the catalyst of this gift.I truly believe that pelvic and heart health are the keys to healing any and all diseases and ailments because I see the pelvis as the center of the bodily universe and the foundational level from which the rest of the body and spirit either thrives or suffers.
I’ve learned about the human body, the systems of flow, energetics, the nervous system, trauma, brain dysfunction, and the process of the universe through the Way of Inner Power Method. I am so elated to say that I truly know how to move my feelings, I have surrendered to them, and this way of living is something I wouldn’t give up for ANYTHING. Having gone through this transformation myself I can say it is a truly a wild-and-worth-it ride. A ride that I know well, and it has yielded so much gratitude and vibrancy in me.
I so deeply want this for you too. This is available to you, I promise you it is a life-changer in the most profound ways.
I believe women’s vitality, on EVERY level, needs to be a part of the everyday narrative of women’s healing and womanly power, and I consider it my personal mission and purpose in life to bring this conversation into the forefront.
I am an expert on de-armoring the pelvic bowl, ancestral release & healing, and re-wiring your system to call in your desires instead of repeating old self-destructive patterns. My signature gift is the power of feminine fierce love. I can undeniably promise you will be infused with an empowered and nuanced understanding of your body with a sense of acceptance, love, and a wealth of pathways leading to vitality.
I only work with women who are 100% ready to RELEASE and RECEIVE. Who are a F*CK yes to this work and teaching. Who know that investing in themselves is the best gift they can receive. Who are open-hearted and ready to commit to themselves on a whole new level. Who are ready for a true transformation of mind, body, sex, spirit, love, and heart.
Thank you for being here, if you want to have a heart-to-heart about what all of this means to you, please write to me! Email me at Alicia@yourinnerpower.org. Divine blessings and much love, Alicia
